Card games have a rich history in the UK, spanning centuries and creating a cultural bond. Favorites like Whist, Bridge, and Poker have been cherished in British homes and social clubs for generations, fostering social connections and traditions. Among these, Knockout Whist shines as a cherished gem, exemplifying the enduring appeal of card playing in the UK.
Alright, geeky friend! Let's learn how to play Knockout Whist, a cool card game from the brits.
A deck of 52 cards (without the jokers). You can use our really geeky GDPR cards
Set Up:
Sit in a circle with your workmates, friends, or family. The game can be played by three to seven people.
Choose someone to be the dealer. They will give everyone seven cards, one at a time, going in a circle.
How to Play:
The dealer flips over the top card to choose the trump suit.
The player to the left of the dealer goes first, placing any card on the table.
Others follow clockwise, matching the suit of the first card if possible; otherwise, they can play any card.
But the player with the highest card of the same suit or the highest trump card wins, collects the cards for themselves, and starts the next turn of cards.
In Knockout Whist, you don't draw extra cards. So, plan which card to start with and which ones to play wisely.
When players run out of cards, they figure out who's out of the game and who continues. The last person standing starts the next round.
Winning:
If you don't win any tricks, you get "knocked out." That means you don't play in the game anymore.
The winner is either the person with the most tricks at the end of the game or the last one standing if others get knocked out first.
Remember:
Pay attention to the suit of the first card and try to match it.
If you don't have that suit, use a trump card if you can.
If you don't win any tricks, you're knocked out – so try to win some!
Card games are often played in traditional British pubs, contributing to the social fabric of these establishments. However, creating a shared culture doesn't always necessitate a trip to the pub. In your office, you can cultivate a sense of togetherness by introducing group games and fun activities after work. The key is to start, by igniting camaraderie and shared experiences that go beyond the cards and contribute to your workplace culture.
Stay Safe! Play Smart!
